Anand Nandkumar, Associate Professor of Strategy at the ISB is also the Academic Director at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at ISB. His research explores industry and firm level phenomena that influence innovation – the generation of new ideas and entrepreneurship – commercialization of new ideas. His research focuses on high technology industries such as Information and Communication Technologies, pharmaceuticals and bio-technology, and it falls in between industrial organization (IO), economics of technological change and strategy.
Professor Nandkumar current work in the innovation stream broadly fall under the area of Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Management. He examines the how digitization across industries influences innovation and competitive advantage, how stronger IPR influence firm strategies, long run incentives for innovation, consumer welfare the ability of firms to source technology externally using of Markets for Technology (MFT). In the entrepreneurship stream, his current work examines the influence of venture capitalists on entrepreneurial performance, the geography of entrepreneurship in India and the co-evolution of the Venture Capital industry and the startup ecosystem in India.
Professor Nandkumar graduated with a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to his PhD, he was with a startup in the Silicon Valley and prior to that in New York City with one of the world’s largest financial services firm. True to his expertise, at the ISB, Professor Nandkumar teaches Strategic Innovation Management and Strategic Challenges for Innovation based startups.
Prof. Deepa Mani is a faculty in the Information Systems area, and Research Fellow at the Indian School of Business. She is also the Executive Director of the Srini Raju Centre for Technology and the Networked Economy at ISB. Prof. Mani’s research interests are at the intersection of technology, organisation, and society.
She is interested in studying the organization of IT and IT-enabled business functions in firms, and assessment of the business value of a broad class of IT decisions and interventions. Her research articles have been published in leading academic journals and extensively featured in refereed conference proceedings, edited book chapters, and popular media outlets.
Prof. Mani works closely with industry to drive innovation and strategies for the digital economy. She also works closely with the central and state governments to explore the impact of technology interventions in areas such as education, healthcare and urbanization.
She serves as an Associate Editor for Management Science and Information Systems Research. Deepa completed her undergraduate education from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and her graduate education from Carnegie Mellon University. She received her doctorate degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Kumara Guru is Director – External Relations at Indian School of Business (ISB). In his current role at the ISB, Guru focuses on building partnerships for the school with key external stakeholders. An alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur, he started his career at the Jain Group of Institutions, Bangalore. Guru is an alumnus of the Indo-Canada Youth Exchange Programme (1994), the US State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (2009), Australia India Youth Dialogue (2013) and the British High Commission, India’s Young Leaders Forum (2013).
Guru led the Young Indians as National Chair for the year 2014-15, on the theme ‘Building Youth Leadership’ and worked closely with chapters across 36 cities in India towards this. Guru follows Indian politics and gets restless if he cannot lay his hands on a newspaper in the morning. He enjoys travelling, reading and is an aspiring long distance runner.
